St Philomena College was founded by Msgr Antony Patrao who felt that a College in this part of the state would save the people of the inconvenience of moving to distant places for higher education. He set out to realize his dream and the mission was accomplished in the year 1958.
Since its inception, the Institute has lived up to societal expectations, turning out consistent and appreciable results in academic and non-academic fields. The institution does attempt to treat the primary stakeholders in 5 UG programs and 5 PG programs with a rewarding educational experience.

Dr. K. Chandrashekar, NSS Programme Officer, along with Lavika G., NSS unit leader, St Philomena College (Autonomous), Puttur, participated in the prestigious week-long National Integration Camp, representing Mangalore University. The event, organized by the University of Mysore, brought together student delegates from across the country, including Maharashtra, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Goa, and Karnataka.
The camp was designed to foster national integration, encourage cultural exchange, and promote unity among youth from diverse regional and cultural backgrounds. Through a series of interactive sessions, competitions, and cultural programmes, participants were given a platform to engage, collaborate, and build mutual understanding.
The Mangalore University contingent delivered an outstanding performance, securing first place in both group dance and group song competitions. Their achievements not only highlighted their artistic talent but also brought laurels to the university.
The camp concluded after a week of vibrant activities, leaving participants enriched with new perspectives and strengthened bonds of unity- true to the spirit of national integration.
