St Philomena College(Autonomous) was founded by Msgr Antony Patrao who felt that a College in this part of the state would save the people of the inconvenience of moving to distant places for higher education. He set out to realize his dream and the mission was accomplished in the year 1958.
Since its inception, the Institute has lived up to societal expectations, turning out consistent and appreciable results in academic and non-academic fields. The institution does attempt to treat the primary stakeholders in 5 UG programs and 5 PG programs with a rewarding educational experience.

The Department of Mathematics at St Philomena College, Puttur, organized a one-day skill enhancement program titled ‘LaTeX Essentials: A Comprehensive Approach for Academic Excellence’ for the Mathematics students of the college.
The event was graced by President of the programme Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, Principal of the College, who also inaugurated the program. Prof. Ganesh Bhat, retired Vice Principal, in his Chief Guest address said, “Participants can find the hands-on sessions and Q&A invaluable, gaining essential skills for professionally formatted documents. This program significantly enhances students’ academic capabilities, providing them with vital tools for their scholarly pursuits.”
Dr Vijaya Kumar Moleyar, Vice principal of the college was the Guest of Honour.
Pratheek Rai N, Assistant Professor in the PG Department of Mathematics at St Philomena College, served as the resource person for the event. He provided a thorough introduction to LaTeX, emphasizing document structure, formatting, and advanced features. His expertise and engaging teaching style helped to clarify the complexities of LaTeX, making it accessible to all participants.
