St Philomena College was founded by Msgr Antony Patrao who felt that a College in this part of the state would save the people of the inconvenience of moving to distant places for higher education. He set out to realize his dream and the mission was accomplished in the year 1958.
Since its inception, the Institute has lived up to societal expectations, turning out consistent and appreciable results in academic and non-academic fields. The institution does attempt to treat the primary stakeholders in 5 UG programs and 5 PG programs with a rewarding educational experience.

The Department of Physics, Center for PG Studies and Research, St Philomena College, Puttur, organized a one-day workshop on ‘KSET General Paper’ on the 7th of November, 2023. Distinguished experts in their respective fields delivered insightful lectures on various topics related to the KSET General Paper. Rev Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, Principal of the College presided over the formal program and urged the participants to make the maximum benefit so as to face the competitive world which they are compelled to explore in the near future soon after the completion of studies.
The workshop commenced with a session on ‘Higher Education System: Governance, Polity, and Administration’, conducted by Mr. Bharath Kumar A., Dean of Arts, St Philomena PU College, Puttur. He emphasized the hierarchy, governance and accreditation of higher education institutes in India.
The second session was led by Mr Prasanna Kumar C, H.O.D. of Social Work at Government First Grade College, Vittla. He provided a comprehensive overview of the concepts of KSET & NET and delivered a compelling talk on ‘Teaching Aptitude’.
Mr. Karthik K., Research Scholar, Department of Mathematics, Mangalore University, conducted the session on ‘Mathematical Reasoning, Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning’.
Mr. Prasanna Kumar C continued with two topics of the KSET General Paper, ‘Research Aptitude and ‘Communication’.
The topic on ‘ICT’ was covered by Mr Govinda Prakash, the Coordinator of the PG Department of Computer Science.
The workshop saw active participation from faculty and students of Post Graduate Departments of Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, and Social Work.
Convener of the workshop Mr Vipin Naik N S, the Coordinator of the PG Department of Physics, Assistant Professors, Mrs Srimani and Mrs Prathibha K were responsible for the conduct of an educative workshop.
