A five-week compulsory training program was organized at St Philomena College for 42 candidates selected through written tests and interviews for the posts of Medical Coder of United States-based multinational Healthcare and Insurance Company Optum under the auspices of Placement and Internal Quality Assurance Cell of St Philomena College recently. The regular written examination was conducted by the company along with training, mock test, mock interview, and other processes arranged, and the learning progress of the candidates was observed. Rev Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro principal of St Philomena College in his presidential remark said, “Campus Recruitment Training Program will provide the candidates with the skills they need for their careers and prepare the students for the next examination. This training is a bridge between the academic environment and career. Career opportunities should never be ignored. Learning is a continuous process. After getting a job, we adapt ourselves to the changes in those job fields. Success can be seen only if it is adopted positively,"

Yaadla Ranisha, the trainer of Optum Company, who participated as the chief guest, said, 'Out of the 42 students trained here, only a handful of students are senior students of St Philomena College, but neither the principal nor the Management here has discriminated but allowed other students to use the physical facilities of the college for free, and this is a rare attitude”.On behalf of the Optum Company, she thanked the college and wished the trained students well. The 4 candidates who exhibited good progress during the training were awarded by the Optum Company.

Candidates who successfully complete the training program will be eligible to appear for the CPC certification exam of AAPC. The said program is being organized in the college for the second time in the current academic year, and out of 42 candidates who appeared for the exam previously, 40 were selected for the post of Medical Coder in Optum Company.
