St Philomena College(Autonomous) was founded by Msgr Antony Patrao who felt that a College in this part of the state would save the people of the inconvenience of moving to distant places for higher education. He set out to realize his dream and the mission was accomplished in the year 1958.

Ph.D. Awarded to Mr Edwin S D'souza

Mangalore University (MU), Mangalagangotri, Karnataka, India awarded Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) Degree to Mr Edwin S D’Souza, Assistant Professor in Chemistry, St Philomena College, Puttur for his thesis on the topic titled ‘A Systematic and Mechanistic Study of Some of the Bio Active Molecules by Electrochemical Sensors – A Voltametric Study’. His Research work was done under the supervision of Dr J.G. Manjunatha, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry, Field Marshal K M Cariappa College Madikeri, A Constituent College of Mangalore University.
