St Philomena College was founded by Msgr Antony Patrao who felt that a College in this part of the state would save the people of the inconvenience of moving to distant places for higher education. He set out to realize his dream and the mission was accomplished in the year 1958.
Since its inception, the Institute has lived up to societal expectations, turning out consistent and appreciable results in academic and non-academic fields. The institution does attempt to treat the primary stakeholders in 5 UG programs and 5 PG programs with a rewarding educational experience.

The Department of Chemistry organized inaugural programme of the Pharmaceutical Chemistry Certificate Course on Friday 13 March 2026.In today’s competitive era, it is essential to provide students with practical knowledge along with degree education.
Certificate courses such as Pharmaceutical Chemistry offer students valuable skill-based experience. Such courses help graduates stay away from unemployment,” said Amrith Kiran
Rai, Vice President of the South Canara Chemists and Druggists Association and owner of
Pragathi Biotech, Mangaluru. He was speaking as the inaugurator at the inaugural programme
of the Pharmaceutical Chemistry Certificate Course organized by the Department of Chemistry of St Philomena College (Autonomous), Puttur.
Presiding over the programme, the principal of the college, Rev. Dr. Antony Prakash Monteiro, said, “The college will always support certificate courses that are essential for the
holistic development of students. Students should not limit themselves only to textbooks but
must also gain industrial knowledge.” He also appreciated the interest shown by the students in the course. Dr Malini K., Head of the Science Department, welcomed the gathering. Rachana and her team led the prayer. Dr. Edwin S. D’Souza, the course coordinator, delivered the vote of thanks, and the programme was compered by student Nifana.
