St Philomena College was founded by Msgr Antony Patrao who felt that a College in this part of the state would save the people of the inconvenience of moving to distant places for higher education. He set out to realize his dream and the mission was accomplished in the year 1958.
Since its inception, the Institute has lived up to societal expectations, turning out consistent and appreciable results in academic and non-academic fields. The institution does attempt to treat the primary stakeholders in 5 UG programs and 5 PG programs with a rewarding educational experience.

St Philomena College recently hosted a campus recruitment drive in collaboration with Optum Company, facilitated by the Placement Cell of the college. The event saw over 250 graduate and postgraduate candidates participating in written tests and interviews for positions as Medical Coders.
During this process, 65 students were selected by Optum for an advanced training program in Medical Coding. A special training session was organized to educate the selected candidates on various aspects of Medical Coding.
Speaking at the inauguration, the Principal, Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, highlighted the plethora of job opportunities available in Medical Coding for BSc students. “BSc graduates possess fundamental knowledge in biology and anatomy, which aids in understanding medical terminology and diseases,” Dr Monteiro said. He emphasized that their analytical thinking and problem-solving skills are essential for the role. He also noted that Medical Coding requires continual learning to keep up with frequently updated coding guidelines and rules.
St Philomena College has established a tie-up with Optum Company, a leading multinational organization known for its high-quality Healthcare services. This collaboration has led to three successful campus recruitment drives at the college to date, resulting in employment for over a hundred individuals, predominantly BSc graduates from the college.
Dr Radhakrishna Gowda, Placement officer of the college, and Latha, a trainer from Optum Company as well as senior student of the college, were present at the event.
