St Philomena College(Autonomous) was founded by Msgr Antony Patrao who felt that a College in this part of the state would save the people of the inconvenience of moving to distant places for higher education. He set out to realize his dream and the mission was accomplished in the year 1958.
Since its inception, the Institute has lived up to societal expectations, turning out consistent and appreciable results in academic and non-academic fields. The institution does attempt to treat the primary stakeholders in 5 UG programs and 5 PG programs with a rewarding educational experience.

As part of the Karnataka State Police Golden Jubilee Celebrations, an awareness program 'Police Run 2024' was organized by the Police Department. Hundreds of college students participated in the program. The event was flagged off at the Fr Patrao circle at Darbe by the SP of Dakshina Kannada district Shri C.B. Ryshyanth, IPS, by releasing doves. He then mentioned that awareness programs organized by the Police Department will be held every month in all schools and colleges under the jurisdiction of the Police Department. The 'Police Run- 2024' event, which started at Fr Patrao circle, passed through the main road and concluded at the Puttur City Police Station. ASP of DK District Shri Dharmappa, DySP of Puttur Shri Arun Nagegowda, Puttur City Police Inspector Shri Satish GJ, Sub-Inspector Shri Anjaneya Reddy, Puttur Women’s Police station Inspector Shri Sunil Kumar MS, Puttur Traffic Police station Inspector Shri Shahid Afridi, Police personnel of all Police stations, St Philomena college student council, NCC cadets, NSS volunteers, Rovers and Rangers, and Youth Red Cross volunteers participated in the event. Under the guidance of the Principal of the college Rev. Dr Anthony Prakash Monteiro, Vice Principal of St Philomena college Dr P.S. Krishnakumar, Public Relations Officer Bharathi S. Rai, Student Welfare Officer Dr Chandrashekar K, NSS Program Officers Vasudev N and Pushpa N, and coordinator of Rover Rangers Dhanya PT were present at the event.
