St Philomena College was founded by Msgr Antony Patrao who felt that a College in this part of the state would save the people of the inconvenience of moving to distant places for higher education. He set out to realize his dream and the mission was accomplished in the year 1958.
Since its inception, the Institute has lived up to societal expectations, turning out consistent and appreciable results in academic and non-academic fields. The institution does attempt to treat the primary stakeholders in 5 UG programs and 5 PG programs with a rewarding educational experience.

In a commendable sporting achievement, Prajwal M, a student of St. Philomena’s Autonomous College, has secured a place at the national level following an impressive performance at the state championship.
The event, the 3rd Karnataka State Arm Wrestling Championship 2025 - 26, was held on April 11 and 12 at Kudmul Ranga Rao Hall in Mangaluru. It was jointly organized under the aegis of the Karnataka Arm Wrestling Association in association with PAFI (People’s Armwrestling Federation India), the Asian Arm-Wrestling Federation, and the World Arm Wrestling Federation.
Representing Dakshina Kannada district, Prajwal M, a student from the college’s Arts stream, delivered an outstanding performance. He clinched first place in the left-arm arm wrestling category and also secured third place in the overall Arm -wrestling division, earning accolades and recognition.
Owing to this achievement, Prajwal has been selected to participate in the 4th PAFI National Arm-Wrestling Championship 2026, scheduled to be held from May 29 to June 2, 2026, at the National Raksha University, Lavad Campus, located in Dahegam, Gandhinagar, Gujarat.
