St Philomena College was founded by Msgr Antony Patrao who felt that a College in this part of the state would save the people of the inconvenience of moving to distant places for higher education. He set out to realize his dream and the mission was accomplished in the year 1958.
Since its inception, the Institute has lived up to societal expectations, turning out consistent and appreciable results in academic and non-academic fields. The institution does attempt to treat the primary stakeholders in 5 UG programs and 5 PG programs with a rewarding educational experience.

The Department of Physics of St Philomena College (Autonomous) organised “Quanta 2K26”, an interdepartmental Physics Fest, at the SJM Hall of the college on Thursday.
The programme was presided over by the Vice Principal of the college, Dr Vijayakumar M. In his presidential address, he said that students should not limit themselves only to academic achievements, but should also actively participate in various activities conducted as part of such festivals to develop their skills. He noted that these activities play a vital role in building students’ self-confidence and overall personality.
The chief guest, Dr Vinayaka K.S., Assistant Professor and Head of the Department of Botany at Sri Venkataramana Swamy College, appreciated the initiative and said that such festivals help nurture creative thinking among students.
Earlier, Head of the Department of Physics, Dr K. Chandrashekhar, delivered the introductory address. Prizes were distributed to the winners of various competitions organised as part of the fest.
Faculty coordinator Mrs Poojashree V. Rai and lecturers of the Science Department were present on the occasion.
The programme commenced with a prayer by second B.Sc. student Manasa and team. Student coordinator A.J. Aishath Jabeena welcomed the gathering, while Manish B.P. introduced the guests. Ashwini N. proposed the vote of thanks and Sushma Wagle compered the programme.
