St Philomena College was founded by Msgr Antony Patrao who felt that a College in this part of the state would save the people of the inconvenience of moving to distant places for higher education. He set out to realize his dream and the mission was accomplished in the year 1958.
Since its inception, the Institute has lived up to societal expectations, turning out consistent and appreciable results in academic and non-academic fields. The institution does attempt to treat the primary stakeholders in 5 UG programs and 5 PG programs with a rewarding educational experience.

Weightlifters of St Philomena College emerged as the Runners Up in the State Youth/Junior/Senior Weight Lifting Championships for the 2023-24 season (For Boys & Girls / Men & Women) organised by Century Real Estate Holdings PVT. LTD and Karnataka State Weightlifters’ Association (Regd). The event was held between 17 and 20 November 2023 at Basketball Outdoor Court, Shree Kanteerava Stadium Bangalore.The championships featured impressive performances from both men and women athletes across various weight categories.
Abhiramachandra Adigundi, a third-year B. Com student, secured a Gold Medal in the Junior and a Silver Medal in the Senior level at 81 kg Category.
Shabhareesha B, a second-year B. Com student, clinched a Bronze Medal in the Senior level at 89 kg Category.
In the 45 kg category, Spandana, a first-year B.Sc. student, earned a Silver Medal in both the Junior and Senior Categories.
Chaithrika M, a first-year B.Sc. student, attained a Bronze Medal in the Junior level at 49 kg Category.
Beulah P T, a first-year M. Com student, secured a Silver Medal in the Senior level at 64 kg Category.
Ranjith M, a first-year BA student, earned a Silver Medal in the Junior level at 102 kg Category.
Sujan K - II BBA - 55 kg, Mohammad Munaf - III B. Com - 61 kg, Yathish - II B. Com - 89 kg, Anwesh Rai - II B. Com - 81 kg and Shivani Machaiah - II B.Sc - 49 kg participated in various categories.
Principal of the College Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro congratulated the achievers, Mr Elias Pinto, Physical Education Direcor and also the coach Mr Pushparaj Gowda, for the hard work and discipline that went into preparing for the championships.
