St Philomena College was founded by Msgr Antony Patrao who felt that a College in this part of the state would save the people of the inconvenience of moving to distant places for higher education. He set out to realize his dream and the mission was accomplished in the year 1958.
Since its inception, the Institute has lived up to societal expectations, turning out consistent and appreciable results in academic and non-academic fields. The institution does attempt to treat the primary stakeholders in 5 UG programs and 5 PG programs with a rewarding educational experience.

The Centre for PG Studies and Research at St Philomena College, in collaboration with the Department of Social Work, organized a successful science modelling programmeon Tuesday at Papemajalu High School. The event aimed to engage High school students in practical science education.
In his address,HeadmasterMr Monappa Poojary emphasized the importance of understanding scientific principles and incorporating them into daily life. Mrs Shreemani, Coordinator of the Department of Social Work, highlighted the significance of such educational initiatives.
The event featured a variety of engaging science models that captivated the attention of the students. Among the notable exhibits were, ECG Machine, Laser Beam Demonstration and Noise Recognizer.
These models provided students with an opportunity to observe and analyse scientific concepts firsthand. Additionally, an educational quiz on the solar system was conducted, further enriching the knowledge of the students.
The program also included live chemical experiments, demonstrating various chemical reactions. These experiments were particularly beneficial, providing students with practical insights into the world of chemistry.
