St Philomena College was founded by Msgr Antony Patrao who felt that a College in this part of the state would save the people of the inconvenience of moving to distant places for higher education. He set out to realize his dream and the mission was accomplished in the year 1958.
Since its inception, the Institute has lived up to societal expectations, turning out consistent and appreciable results in academic and non-academic fields. The institution does attempt to treat the primary stakeholders in 5 UG programs and 5 PG programs with a rewarding educational experience.

St Philomena College (Autonomous), Puttur student excelled in the intercollegiate elocution competition organized at the university level. The event was hosted by Sri Mahaveera First Grade College, Moodbidri, and was held in memory of S.D. Samrajya.
The theme of the competition was "The Role of Youth in Realizing Gandhiji's Dream of a Self-Reliant India." Demonstrating remarkable oratory skills, Srividya N., a first-year B.Sc. student at St. Philomena College (Autonomous), Puttur won the third prize, which included a certificate and a cash award.
The competition saw enthusiastic participation, with 30 students from various colleges under Mangalore University taking part in the event.
Principal Rev. Dr. Antony Prakash Monteiro, congratulated Srividya N. for this achievement and extended his best wishes for her future endeavours.
