St Philomena College(Autonomous) was founded by Msgr Antony Patrao who felt that a College in this part of the state would save the people of the inconvenience of moving to distant places for higher education. He set out to realize his dream and the mission was accomplished in the year 1958.
Since its inception, the Institute has lived up to societal expectations, turning out consistent and appreciable results in academic and non-academic fields. The institution does attempt to treat the primary stakeholders in 5 UG programs and 5 PG programs with a rewarding educational experience.

Puttur: Mrs. Bharathi S Rai, HoD and Professor of English at St.Philomena College, was given the Oustanding Teacher award with Ashwini Gold Medal for her contribution to Education by Buntara Sangha (Bunt’s Association) of Puttur.
Prof.Bharathi S Rai did degree education from Roshani Nilaya, Mangalore, MA from Andra University, Vishakhapattanam, MPhil from Vinayaka Mission, Salem, LLB from KVG law College, Sullia, and pursuing Ph.D. at Srinivasa Autonomous University, Mangalore. For the past twenty years, Prof.Bharathi S Rai has been working as English Lecturer at St.Philomena College, Puttur; presently, she is Student Welfare Officer in the College.
Smt.Bharathi S Rai is the wife of Belya Sanath Kumar Rai, a Businessman. The couple has a son, Jai Kishan Rai, who is presently studying BTech in Mechanical Engineering at the Vellur Institute of Technology (VIT), Tamilnadu.
The Principal and the Management congratulated Prof.Bharathi S Rai for her contribution and for bringing the laurels to the College.
