St Philomena College was founded by Msgr Antony Patrao who felt that a College in this part of the state would save the people of the inconvenience of moving to distant places for higher education. He set out to realize his dream and the mission was accomplished in the year 1958.
Since its inception, the Institute has lived up to societal expectations, turning out consistent and appreciable results in academic and non-academic fields. The institution does attempt to treat the primary stakeholders in 5 UG programs and 5 PG programs with a rewarding educational experience.

Upholding the spirit of democracy in campus life, St Philomena College (Autonomous), Puttur, conducted its Student Council Elections under the guidance and supervision of Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, Principal and Chief Election Officer of the college. The election process was organized in a free, fair, and disciplined manner within the college premises.
A total of eight candidates contested in the election.Two for the post of President, three for the post of Secretary, and three for the post of Joint Secretary. For the post of President, the contestants were Deekshith Gowda from III BCA and Muzammil I from III B.Com. After an active and enthusiastic polling process, Muzammil I was declared elected.
For the Secretary post, Abhiram H (III BCA), Yusuf Alphaz (III BCA), and Priyanka N.K. (III B. Com) were the candidates. Yusuf Alphaz emerged as the winner in this category. For the Joint Secretary post, Diya K. (III BCA), Gaanavi K.K. (III BCA), and Hiba Sheikh (III B.Sc) contested, with Hiba Sheikh emerging victorious.
Following the declaration of results, Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, Principal, congratulated the winners and honoured them for their achievement, emphasizing the importance of responsible and fair leadership within the student community.
The election was coordinated by the student welfare officers Dr Radhakrishna Gowda and Mrs Sperl Fiona Pereira. Dr Norbert Mascarenhas (Registrar Academic), Dr Vijay Kumar Moliyar (Vice Principal), and Dr. Vinay Chandra (Controller of Examinations) served as ballot supervision officers, ensuring the smooth conduct of the voting process. Dr K. Chandrashekar, Head of the Department of Physics, served as the Returning Officer.
Faculty members from various departments actively assisted in the successful and transparent execution of the election.
