St Philomena College was founded by Msgr Antony Patrao who felt that a College in this part of the state would save the people of the inconvenience of moving to distant places for higher education. He set out to realize his dream and the mission was accomplished in the year 1958.
Since its inception, the Institute has lived up to societal expectations, turning out consistent and appreciable results in academic and non-academic fields. The institution does attempt to treat the primary stakeholders in 5 UG programs and 5 PG programs with a rewarding educational experience.

Celebrating International Democracy Day, students from St Philomena College (Autonomous), Puttur, secured first and second prizes in an inter-college photography competition focused on voter awareness.
The students' creative photographs effectively conveyed messages highlighting the glory of India's Constitution and democratic system. Visakh, III BCA clinched the first prize, and Yusuf Ali Salim III BCA bagged second place for their innovative entries.
The awards were presented on November 26 during the Constitution Day program at Puttur Purabhvana. Principal Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro congratulated the talented students.
Student Welfare Officer Dr Radhakrishna Gowda V, Public Relations Officer Ms Bharathi S Rai, and Yakshakala Kendra Director Prashanth Rai guided the students in their achievement.
