St Philomena College(Autonomous) was founded by Msgr Antony Patrao who felt that a College in this part of the state would save the people of the inconvenience of moving to distant places for higher education. He set out to realize his dream and the mission was accomplished in the year 1958.
Since its inception, the Institute has lived up to societal expectations, turning out consistent and appreciable results in academic and non-academic fields. The institution does attempt to treat the primary stakeholders in 5 UG programs and 5 PG programs with a rewarding educational experience.

Youth Red Cross Society of St Philomena College in association with Internal Quality Assurance Cell and Women Empowerment Cell organized an awareness programme on’ Suicide Prevention’ at Spandana Seminar Hall of the College. Prof.Ganesh Bhat, Vice Principal of the College, presided over the formal programme and in his Presidential remarks he stated that that present day youth are at risk of mental breakdown and awareness programmes of this nature will help them to overcome trauma of suicidal tendency.
Mrs. Sandra Suares Counselor and Member in Susheg Suicide Helpline and also a Member of Association of Certified Counselors, Mangalore and Mrs. Jyoti Canade, Student Counselor in Nalanda English Medium School, Mangalore were the resource persons. They highlighted on the aspects of suicide and the general causes and myths about suicide and its prevention.
Pritam and group invoked God’s blessings. Dr Dimple Fernandes welcomed. Co Convener Mr Nilesh Joy Dias, Department of Commerce was present. Mrs Nancy Pinto, Asst. Prof. Department of Social Work proposed vote of thanks. Melon D'Souza compered the programme.
