St Philomena College was founded by Msgr Antony Patrao who felt that a College in this part of the state would save the people of the inconvenience of moving to distant places for higher education. He set out to realize his dream and the mission was accomplished in the year 1958.
Since its inception, the Institute has lived up to societal expectations, turning out consistent and appreciable results in academic and non-academic fields. The institution does attempt to treat the primary stakeholders in 5 UG programs and 5 PG programs with a rewarding educational experience.

Trishul Gowda, a student of St Philomena College and a standout athlete in the swimming team of the institution, has been selected as Life Saving Sports Team India Member under National Interclub Open – Men Athlete Category Lifesaving World Championship to be held in Australia to represent India in the 2024 National Life Saving World Championship. The said Championship is scheduled from Tuesday ,20 August to 8th September 2024 in Australia. As a National Team member he will be trained by various experts on various aspects of life saving games in Chennai from 5th to 15 August.
Trishul Gowda, currently in his third year of the Bachelor of Arts program, has distinguished himself as the best swimmer at St Philomena College. His selection for the national team is a testament to his exceptional skills and dedication to the sport.
Trishul’s success is the result of rigorous training and guidance from his coaches, Partha Varanasi, Nirup GR, Rohit Prakash, and Dixit Rao. Their expertise and commitment have played an important role in honing Trishul’s abilities and preparing him for this significant competition.Trishul is the son of Shiva Gowda and T. Nalini .
