VALEDICTORY PROGRAM OF SERIES OF WORKSHOPS ON CREATING AWARENESS AGAINST HUMAN TRAFFICKING

The Anti Human Trafficking Club of St Philomena College Puttur, in collaboration with esteemed legal organizations such as the District Legal Authority Mangalore, Taluk Legal Services Committee Puttur, Bar Association Puttur, Department of Education Puttur, and Anikethana Educational Trust Puttur in their joint initiative sought to mark the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons through a series of impactful workshops that aimed to create awareness and empower students. The valedictory program of this enlightening series took place at Shri Ramakrishna Highschool, Kombettu, Puttur, on August 5, 2023.

The concluding event, held at Bantarabhavana in Puttur, was graced by the presence of dignitaries, highlighting the significant strides made in the fight against human trafficking. Correspondent of Sri Ramakrishna Highschool Mr Kavu Hemanatha Shetty presided over the program, while the Honorable Additional Civil Judge of Puttur, Shri Shivanna H.R, participated as the chief guest. Addressing the audience, Shri Shivanna emphasized the importance of generating awareness amongst the public and students to effectively combat this societal menace. He commended the collaborative efforts of organizations and educational institutions in conducting these awareness workshops.

Advocate Manohar A., also a chief guest at the event, underscored the crucial role of deterrence in reducing criminal activities. He asserted that instilling a fear of punishment can significantly curtail the commission of crimes. Bharathi S Rai, Member Secretary of the Anti Human Trafficking Club of St Philomena College, administered an oath to the students, fostering a sense of responsibility and commitment to eradicate human trafficking.

Distinguished personalities Prof Ganesh Bhat, Vice Principal of St Philomena College, Shri Krishna Prasad Nadsar, Managing Trustee of Anikethana Educational Trust; Shri Hariprasad, Coordinator of the School Education Department, Shri Chinmaya Rai, Chief Secretary of the Puttur Bar Council; Treasurer Shyamaprasad Kailar; Joint Secretary Seema Nagaraj, Krishna Naik, the PTA President and Panel Advocates Venkatesh and Manoj were present at the event. 

Smt. Jayalaxmi, the Head Mistress, extended a warm welcome to all attendees. The vote of thanks was delivered by Ms. Sandhya, expressing gratitude for the collective effort and dedication that went into organizing the enlightening workshops.

These workshops, which reached out to more than 2000 students from various schools, have played a pivotal role in enhancing awareness about the perils of human trafficking. The collaborative endeavor between the Anti Human Trafficking Club of St Philomena College Puttur and distinguished legal bodies is a commendable stride toward creating a vigilant and proactive community, determined to prevent the detestable crime of human trafficking. Through education and awareness, these workshops have imparted essential knowledge and ignited a sense of responsibility, paving the way for a safer society for all.
