St Philomena College(Autonomous) was founded by Msgr Antony Patrao who felt that a College in this part of the state would save the people of the inconvenience of moving to distant places for higher education. He set out to realize his dream and the mission was accomplished in the year 1958.
Since its inception, the Institute has lived up to societal expectations, turning out consistent and appreciable results in academic and non-academic fields. The institution does attempt to treat the primary stakeholders in 5 UG programs and 5 PG programs with a rewarding educational experience.

In a remarkable event that resonated with enthusiasm and national pride, the Department of Physics at St Philomena College orchestrated an extraordinary opportunity to witness the successful lunar landing of the Vikrama lander, a pivotal component of ISRO’s Chandrayaan-3 program.
Dr A P Radhakrishna, Vice Principal and Head of the Physics, set the stage with his opening address, wherein he recounted ISRO’s profound contributions to space science and emphasized the pivotal role of space exploration in modern times.
As Vikrama flawlessly descended and made contact with the Moon’s south pole, a thunderous eruption of applause and a heartfelt standing ovation echoed through the hall. The students and teachers who had gathered for the momentous occasion were swept up in the excitement of witnessing history being made, creating a truly once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro took a moment to extend his heartfelt congratulations to the tireless scientists and engineers who had relentlessly worked day and night to bring the nation’s lunar dream to fruition. Their dedication and perseverance have not only propelled scientific advancement but also instilled a sense of collective national pride he said.
