St Philomena College was founded by Msgr Antony Patrao who felt that a College in this part of the state would save the people of the inconvenience of moving to distant places for higher education. He set out to realize his dream and the mission was accomplished in the year 1958.
Since its inception, the Institute has lived up to societal expectations, turning out consistent and appreciable results in academic and non-academic fields. The institution does attempt to treat the primary stakeholders in 5 UG programs and 5 PG programs with a rewarding educational experience.

In an initiative by the Government of Karnataka and Taluk Panchayath Office,Puttur to boost electoral participation, the Dakshina Kannada Zilla SVEEP Committee, in collaboration with the Taluk SVEEP Committee of Puttur and the Government Women’s First Grade College, Puttur, hosted a ‘Voting Awareness Street Play.’ The event took place at the Centre for Post Graduate Studies and Research, St Philomena College, Puttur. The play was directed by Mr Mounesh Vishwakarma, a journalist and renowned director of ‘Samsara Jodu Marga’. Taluka Panchayat SVEEP Committee officers Mr Bharath Raj and Ms Tulasi, and Dr Radhakrishna Gowda, Dean of the Department of Business Administration of the college, were present on the occasion. The performance featured students from the Government Women’s First Grade College Puttur, who delivered convincing portrayals that highlighted the significance of voting rights. Their performance powerfully conveyed that ‘students and society must be aware of their right to choose commendable candidates and make informed decisions in the elections,’ urging the audience to exercise their rights with integrity and self-respect.
