St Philomena College was founded by Msgr Antony Patrao who felt that a College in this part of the state would save the people of the inconvenience of moving to distant places for higher education. He set out to realize his dream and the mission was accomplished in the year 1958.
Since its inception, the Institute has lived up to societal expectations, turning out consistent and appreciable results in academic and non-academic fields. The institution does attempt to treat the primary stakeholders in 5 UG programs and 5 PG programs with a rewarding educational experience.

The Department of Postgraduate Studies at St Philomena College (Autonomous), Puttur, in association with the Career Guidance Cell, organized a three-day KSET-NET General Paper Workshop Series exclusively for postgraduate students to enhance their preparedness for competitive academic examinations.
The workshop was designed to provide holistic training on concepts, strategies, and approaches relevant to the KSET and NET examinations.
On the first day, resource persons Mr Prasanna Kumar C, Assistant Professor, Government First Grade College, Vittal, and Mr Tejaswi Bhat, Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce, St Philomena College, conducted detailed sessions focusing on examination techniques, analytical reasoning, and effective time management.
The second day of the series featured insightful sessions conducted by Dr Geetha Poornima, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science, St Philomena College; Mr Govinda Prakash, Head, Department of Computer Science, St Philomena Pre-University College, Puttur; and Dr Karthik K, Assistant Professor, Department of Mathematics, Government First Grade College, Uppinangady. They provided students with an in-depth understanding of logical reasoning, problem-solving methods, and digital aptitude components of the paper.
On the third day, Dr Prasad H. M, Assistant Professor, Department of Mathematics, Government First Grade College, Ajjarkad, Udupi, and Mrs. Shashiprabha, Assistant Professor, Department of Botany, St Philomena College, led the sessions. They guided students through comprehensive modules on research aptitude, scientific temper, and critical comprehension skills.
The workshop series was held under the guidance of Rev. Dr. Antony Prakash Monteiro, Principal of St. Philomena College (Autonomous), Puttur, who emphasized the importance of structured preparation and consistent practice to achieve success in academic examinations.
The sessions received an enthusiastic response, offering postgraduate students a valuable platform to enrich their knowledge and strengthen their confidence for KSET and NET examinations.
