St Philomena College was founded by Msgr Antony Patrao who felt that a College in this part of the state would save the people of the inconvenience of moving to distant places for higher education. He set out to realize his dream and the mission was accomplished in the year 1958.
Since its inception, the Institute has lived up to societal expectations, turning out consistent and appreciable results in academic and non-academic fields. The institution does attempt to treat the primary stakeholders in 5 UG programs and 5 PG programs with a rewarding educational experience.

The Anti-Human Trafficking Club and Anti-Women Harassment Cell of St Philomena College (Autonomous), Puttur, observed ‘World Day Against Trafficking in Persons’ with an awareness programme aimed at sensitizing students about the rising threats of human trafficking and gender-based violence.
Presiding over the event, Principal Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro emphasized the importance of vigilance and value-based living in contemporary times. “In today’s world, where unseen dangers lurk even in familiar spaces, I urge our students to be extra cautious. A value-added life begins with mindful living, being aware of one’s surroundings, one’s choices, and above all, one’s inner strength,” he remarked. He also administered the Anti-Human Trafficking Day oath to the students.
Ms Bharathi S Rai, Member Secretary, Antihuman Trafficking Club of the College and HoD, English, who served as the resource person. Her session shed light on the psychological, social, and legal dimensions of trafficking, urging students to become active agents of awareness and prevention.
Dr Edwin S D’Souza, IQAC Coordinator, and Ms Noveline N D’Souza, Convener of the Anti-Women Harassment Cell were graciously present on the dais. Dr Chandrashekhar K, HoD, Physics and Mr Vinil Rohan D’Souza, Asst Professor Department of English also were present on the occasion.
