St Philomena College was founded by Msgr Antony Patrao who felt that a College in this part of the state would save the people of the inconvenience of moving to distant places for higher education. He set out to realize his dream and the mission was accomplished in the year 1958.
Since its inception, the Institute has lived up to societal expectations, turning out consistent and appreciable results in academic and non-academic fields. The institution does attempt to treat the primary stakeholders in 5 UG programs and 5 PG programs with a rewarding educational experience.

In a vibrant showcase of cultural heritage and youthful talent, the Yakshadhruva - Yakshagana Students’ Meet (Sammilana) 2025-26 was successfully held on January 11 at the Silver Jubilee Memorial Hall of St Philomena College (Autonomous), Puttur.
The mega-event was organized through a collaborative effort by the Yakshadhruva Patla Foundation Trust Mangaluru, Yaksha Kala Kendra (Center for Study of Indian Classical and Folk Arts) St Philomena College, and the Puttur and Sullia units of the Patla Foundation.
The event was officially inaugurated by Kumari Bhagirathi Murulya, MLA of Sullia. In her address, she lauded the Patla Foundation for its selfless contribution to the arts.
“It is highly commendable that the Patla Foundation is providing Yakshagana training to students free of cost under the guidance of veterans. Yakshagana represents our unique cultural identity, and it is our collective responsibility to preserve and nurture it for future generations,” she stated.
Patla Satish Shetty, the Founder-President of Yakshadhruva Patla Foundation Trust, delivered the introductory remarks. He expressed profound gratitude to Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, Principal of St Philomena College, for his unwavering commitment to promoting Yakshagana through the Yaksha Kala Kendra. He also thanked the Sullia and Puttur units for their seamless coordination of the event.
The highlight of the day was the performance by 300 students from the Sullia and Puttur assembly constituencies, trained under the Yaksha-Shikshana project. The students delivered high-caliber Yakshagana performances that enthralled the audience at the Bhagavatha Dinesh Ammannaya Stage.
The morning session was presided over by Dayakara Alva, Honorary President of the Sullia Unit. Several dignitaries graced the dais, including Panambur Vasudeva Aithal, Chief Convener of Yaksha Shikshana, Savanuru Sitarama Rai, Honorary President, Puttur Unit, Karunakara Rai Derla, President, Puttur Unit,Mithun Shenoy Bellare, Entrepreneur, Dr Vinayachandra, Registrar of Examinations, St Philomena College, Purushottama Bhandari, General Secretary, Mother Foundation and Sudesh Kumar Rai, Treasurer .
The session was anchored by Deevit S.K. Peradi, Coordinator of Yaksha Shikshana, who also proposed the vote of thanks.
