St Philomena College(Autonomous) was founded by Msgr Antony Patrao who felt that a College in this part of the state would save the people of the inconvenience of moving to distant places for higher education. He set out to realize his dream and the mission was accomplished in the year 1958.
Since its inception, the Institute has lived up to societal expectations, turning out consistent and appreciable results in academic and non-academic fields. The institution does attempt to treat the primary stakeholders in 5 UG programs and 5 PG programs with a rewarding educational experience.

St Philomena College, Puttur, Yakshagana Thalamaddale “PARAMA SHISHYA BHISHMA Yaksha Kalakendra (Centre for Studies in Indian Classical & Folk Arts), in association with N S Kille Prathishtana, Kedambadi®, organized” at the PG Seminar Hall. Yaksha Kalakendra has come up with the “Philo Yaksha Samvaada Series” with the objective of exploring the rich literary flavours of the Indian epic. Parashurama, Bhishma samvaada reflected the assertive personality of Bhishma. The teacher-student relationship was artistically reflected in the fluent conversation between the artists. Sri Kadamajal Subhash Rai, President of Kille Prathishtana, inaugurated the program. He promised to extend his support towards the activities of the Yaksha Kalakendra. Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Montero, Principal of the College, spoke about the performers’ mastery over the language that Yakshagana Thalamaddale demands and appreciated the extempore skills of the artists. Prashanth Rai, Lava Kumar, Vishnu Sharana, Prof Ganaraja Kumble, and Venkatesh Kumar participated as artists for the program. Abhishek Suvarna, Assistant Professor of Business Administration, was present on the occasion. Vice Principal Dr Vijay Kumar Moleyar welcomed and Yaksha Kalakendra Convener Prashanth Rai proposed the vote of thanks. The program was scheduled to be premiered on the official YouTube channel of the college.
