St Philomena College(Autonomous) was founded by Msgr Antony Patrao who felt that a College in this part of the state would save the people of the inconvenience of moving to distant places for higher education. He set out to realize his dream and the mission was accomplished in the year 1958.
Since its inception, the Institute has lived up to societal expectations, turning out consistent and appreciable results in academic and non-academic fields. The institution does attempt to treat the primary stakeholders in 5 UG programs and 5 PG programs with a rewarding educational experience.

The folk theatre art form Yakshagaana,known for mindblowing music, extempore dialogues, powerful and expressive dance movements has won the hearts of St Philomenites as it is evident with the establishment of YAKSHAKALAKENDRA in the College with the passionate fascination of Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, Prinipal of the College towards this art form. The certificate course was organized by Yakshakalakendra in association with Deshabhaktha N S Kille Prathishtaana (R) Kedambadi. Kadamajalu Subhash Rai, President of the Prathishtaana particicipated as the chief guest and said that the personality an individual develops by being sensitive to the world around only is the greatest of any wealth one can earn in his/her life. The cultural temperament in the students have wonderful platforms to exhibit the talents in the college. On this occasion, he also announced his donation of Rs 1 Lakh to Yakshakalakendra to be handed over on his 75th birthday this year.
Dr A P Radhakrishna, vice principal of the college expressed his view on how students could be the medium to retain the art and culture of our society.
Principal of the college Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro in his presidential remarks said that the qualities we inculcate in our personality cannot be stolen away and whatever is learnt,let that be a beacon light on the path of life.
The 25 students who successfully completed the 32 hours certificate course were awarded the certificates. Narayana Sharma of II M.Sc rendered his services in training the students in the C.course .Ms Maithri of II M.Sc. who received the’ Thanda Shreshta Award’ at the yakshagaana competition organized by Yaksha Dhruva Patla Foundation is honoured.
