St Philomena College was founded by Msgr Antony Patrao who felt that a College in this part of the state would save the people of the inconvenience of moving to distant places for higher education. He set out to realize his dream and the mission was accomplished in the year 1958.
Since its inception, the Institute has lived up to societal expectations, turning out consistent and appreciable results in academic and non-academic fields. The institution does attempt to treat the primary stakeholders in 5 UG programs and 5 PG programs with a rewarding educational experience.

As part of the golden jubilee celebrations of the Kannada Association, St Philomena College (Autonomous), Puttur, hosted a grand Yakshagana Tala-Maddale performance titled “Sudhanva” on Wednesday at the Postgraduate Seminar Hall and was organized under the auspices of the YakshaKalakendra of the College.
Renowned Yakshagana artiste Shri Prashanth Rai, Director of YakshaKalakendra, led the performance as the Bhagavatha (narrator and singer), adding depth and vibrancy to the traditional theatre form. The episode featured compelling portrayals by Shri Jabbar Samo as Arjuna, Shri Vasudeva Ranganatha Bhat as Sudhanva, and Shri Prasad as Lord Krishna, who captivated the audience with their powerful dialogues and dramatic finesse.
Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, Principal of St Philomena College, conveyed his best wishes for the successful conduct of the cultural celebration and lauded the efforts of the department in promoting Kannada language and heritage through such art forms.
The event was organized by Dr Vijayakumar Moleyar, Vice Principal and Head of the Kannada Department. The proceedings were compered by Sridevi of III B.Sc.
